Our mission is to better serve children with special needs through education, resources, and support.

New Albany Special Connections

Is there formal membership or dues?

No, New Albany Special Connections (NASC) has been able to meet the goals of its mission through private donations, grants and community service generously provided by local professionals. We strive to offer programs that are free and open to the public.

Each family is free to attend educational programs, enroll their child in programs or explore resources as they deem necessary.

Are there services New Albany Special Connections cannot provide?

NASC serves a broad population with diverse special education needs. If you have specific concerns regarding your child, your needs may be better served through the school district’s special education service coordinators, guidance counselors, school psychologists or outside agencies such as Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities, Central Ohio Special Education Regional Resource Center or Franklin County MRDD.

In addition, NASC and the staff of our New Albany Library Branch worked together to provide an array of books covering a variety of topics on children with special needs. Please contact our New Albany Public Library branch staff. They would be happy to help you.

Will my child’s needs remain confidential?

Absolutely, no information about your child or your family is passed from the school district to NASC. There are confidentiality laws to protect us all. However, the laws that protect us can also keep us apart and separate us from others in similar situations. NASC provides a means for families to tap into for support.

How can I find out about upcoming events?

Events are announced through our web site, backpack fliers and local papers. If you wish to receive all NASC announcements, please contact the secretary at secretary at naspecialconnections.org  Providing your e-mail address to our secretary will allow you to receive e-mail reminders about our programs and events.

How can I get involved?

You can get involved by attending educational evenings, social events, giving your child the opportunity to experience programs offered or volunteering with tasks.

Organizations such as NASC always remain strong and depend upon help from others. No offer of help is too small. Please give your name to the secretary (secretary at naspecialconnections.org) as being available to help with tasks or let us know your interests or talents. We appreciate your letting us know when you are available.

Can I be involved if my child has an out-of-district placement?

Definitely, you are welcome to attend any event or program that fits your family’s needs.

I live in a surrounding community. Can I attend events?

Yes, we have had families attend events residing outside of our community. Most educational evenings are free and open to the public.
